Theory is important, but how do we apply our knowledge in the real world? Marcus Alexander (Senior Business Consultant at EMC Consulting) and Arran Ross-Paterson (freelance Front End Engineer) will use this event to discuss the tips and techniques they use to get the best out of each project.

The Search for Quality - Negotiating Best Practice in a Client Environment

Clients are strange creatures. While we talk about standards and best practice, they are obsessed with deadlines, features, and cost. In any client relationship we have to grapple with requirements that change with the breeze, politics, and the challenge of understanding and delivering what they really want - and deliver it yesterday. Marcus Alexander looks into how we learn what quality really means in this  complex place and how we maintain our standards and idealism under pressure.

The Validated, Accessible, Semantic, Rich Data, Connected Web... & Why You Shouldn't Bother

For years now the great & the good of the web have been extolling the value of validating code, semantic markup & optimisation, but truly where does the value lie with such practices? Arran Ross-Paterson (@arranrp) will ask whether we can we really achieve all of these goals and whether there's a price to be paid.

London Web Standards

London Web Standards brings together web professionals who are working for a better web. Our monthly meetups provide them with an opportunity to teach, inspire, learn, network and debate.

Each meetup features a speaker drawn from our membership or the wider standards community. The talks cover a range of topics including HTML5, JavaScript, YQL, accessibility, web fonts, UX and front-end performance.

Come along, drink some beer (or your beverage of choice) and exchange ideas with other web developers, designers and professionals who are as passionate about the web as you are.
